Wayne Local School District: Waynesville Winterguard Off to a Strong Start

23

Wayne Local School District issued the following announcement on March 11.

The Waynesville Winterguard has begun their season with three strong performances.  Competing in class Scholastic Regional AA, the Winterguard placed 4th at their first show at Bellbrook High School on February 5, 3rd at the Nutter Center on February 19, and earned 1st place at their most recent competition at Fairfield High School on February 27.

Set to the song, What They’ll Say About Us by FINNEAS, the Winterguard’s show is called “Just Like You”, which is a tribute to family and friends lost too soon, but who remain in our hearts.  Combining dance, flag, and rifle work, the Winterguard displays heartfelt emotion in their routine.

Still a new group, the Waynesville Winterguard began in the winter of 2019-2020, but their season was cut short due to the COVID shutdown in March of 2020.  The Winterguard season was cancelled completely in 2021, so this is the group’s first year back since their abbreviated first season.  Under the direction of Samantha Morgan and Cheyenna Jordan, who are also the Waynesville Marching Band’s Colorguard instructors, and comprised of twelve students in grades 8-12, many are new to the art of spinning flags.

Come out and support the Waynesville Winterguard as they compete at their last three shows:

Saturday, March 12 at Milford High School (Performance Time: 2:24pm)

Saturday, March 26 at BB&T Arena at NKU for the TRISTATE Championships (Performance Time TBA)

Saturday, April 2 at The Nutter Center for the MEPA Championships (Performance Time TBA)
